Complications after the Latarjet procedure for the treatment of anterior shoulder instability in patients older than 45 years of age
Summary / Zusammenfassung
The Latarjet procedure is an operative treatment yielding excellent results in young patients with anterior shoulder instability. The outcome in older patientss is not well known. The goal was to analyze type and frequency of complications after the Latarjet operatio in patients older than 45 years of age.

Patients & Methods: From April to January 2008, 240 patients underwent an open Latarjet prodcedure for traumatic anterior shoulder instability in our institution. Clinical and radiological results were evaluated in patients older than 45 years of age and with a minimum follow-up of 1 year.

Conclusion: The Latarjet procedure in patients older than 45 years of age is associated with a high complication rate (48 %) and a high revision rate (33%) This may be due to frequent concomitant pathologies (33%), especially rotator cuff disease and poorer bone quality compared to younger patients.
