Continuous Musculotendinous traction plus pharmacological muscle stimulation using anabolic steroids and IGF to reverse structural muscle changes induced by tendon tear.
Summary / Zusammenfassung
The principal goal is to achieve morphologic and functional recovery of chronically retracted, deteriorated muscle. This is to be achieved by recovery of the muscle fibers not only in length, but also in diameter with simultaneous displacement of the surrounding intramuscular fat. We seek to achieve this goal with specific anabolic pharmacological stimulations and an improved lengthening apparatus, avoiding a transcutaneous communication thus reducing the potential of infection. Further, this project will determine if a pharmacological (biological) stimulus such as anabolic steroids or IGF promotes recovery of atrophied skeletal muscle. The project should allow to create a regeneration technique susceptible to clinically address chronic musculotendinous retraction and the development of a prototcol for intraoperative monitoring of function of the muscle.
