| Summary / Zusammenfassung | Articles in journals try to communicate the current knowledge and evidence. As a result of uncontrollable increase of information it ahs become common practice to rely on the prestige of journals rather than to critically analyse its content. The prestige of a journal is defined by its impact factor, a value which is calculated by the rate of citations of its articles. There have been enforced efforts to illuminate determinates which are associated to the citation rate in many fields. In this regard, however, there is lack of information about literature dealing with musculoskeletal disorders which are the most common cause of long-term illness and one of the most expensive health problems worldwide. A multidimensional approach with a Public Health perspective is needed to evaluate potential determinants associated with the citation rate of the articles of a journal with direct effect on its impact factor and prestige and, in the end, on the impact of decisions made for the public health. It seems important to identify the determinates to alert and empower to a more critical appraisal of the literature. |
