| Summary / Zusammenfassung | There is evidence that some vigorous new plant invaders are hybrids between formerly allopatric species. Hybridization and introgression may lead to higher fitness and a competitive advantage. We tested this assumption by crossing two closely related, native species (the rare Ranunculus reptans and the more common R. flammula) and compared the homoploid hybrids with their parental species for their response to different environmental treatments corresponding to different niches that R. flammula and R. reptans naturally occupy but also including new environments with strong interspecific competition currently not inhabited by either parental species. | ||||
